M-Commerce is Moving Onward & Upward

There are over 132 million smartphone users in the United States alone.  Of this number, 25% are actively making purchases from the palm of their hand.  The number may seem significant, however, it only accounts for 3% of online sales and only 1% of total retail sales.

The “M-Commerce” numbers may look minute, however, it has become the fastest growing market over E-commerce and physical retail.

Mashable has shared Forrester Research, Inc.’s data projecting the next 5 years to be huge for mobile consumers.  By 2017, it is expected that mobile sales will increase each year by 33% and in return account for 9% of online sales.

Although these numbers are heading in a positive direction, they have had their setbacks.  These setbacks are not the consumer but rather the retailers.  Many retailers have chosen to only focus on their E-Commerce, so their desktop may have a great site, however, their mobile capabilities are not optimized making it very difficult for any customer to make purchases, especially if their only online mode to shop is their smartphone.

The retailers that have chosen to move forward with M-Commerce, such as Amazon, Apple, Foot Locker, etc. are reaping the benefits and finding their customers are very satisfied.

M-Commerce has a very promising future ahead of it and both Forrester Research, Inc. and the moBistro team believe it is well worth being involved with if your business is focused on online sales.
