Welcome to the Mobile Website Wall of Shame.
There is a QR Code Wall of Shame here, so we figured why not do a Mobile Website one as well? This is a list of big name companies that should be keeping with the latest trends - but aren't. See your company on this list? Please let someone make a mobile website for you!
Andy's Burgers
General Information: Over 100 locations, mostly on the East Coast. Based in Mount Olive, NC. Website URL: www.andysburgers.net Biggest Problems with Site on Mobile Device: The locations page is a Map with little icons for each location. If you can manage to pinch and zoom to get to the Location Finder, you have very little control over which location you select. Phone numbers are not Click-to-Call format, and the address cannot be copied and pasted, let alone clicked on to bring up google maps. Recommendations: Get a Mobile Website
Bar Louie
General Information: Over 50 locations and growing. Awarded the "Concept of Tomorrow" by Restaurant Hospitality Magazine... so how do they not have a mobile site?! Website URL: www.barlouieamerica.com Biggest Problems with Site on Mobile Device: The main image looks nice, but overshadows all of the links in the top navigation. Double clicking on the screen barely zooms in at all. Once you have found the locations link and selected a state (No 'Find Near Me' feature...) the Menu is in PDF format. When you zoom in on the menu far enough to read it, it gets very blurry. Recommendations: Get a Mobile Website
Chipotle
General Information: The first store opened in 1993, and now they have 1,128 locations throughout the United States. Website URL: www.chipotle.com Biggest Problems with Site on Mobile Device: The main navigation links have drop-down menus that are impossible to get to on a mobile device. How do you "mouse-over" something with your finger? The Good News? Chipotle has an iPhone App! No one that likes Chipotle uses Android anyway, right?... Recommendations: Get a Mobile Website
bd's Mongolian Grill
General Information: Opened in 1992 after Billy "BD" Downs visited a similar restaurant in London. More than 30 locations in the northern Midwest (and my personal favorite restaurant EVER) Website URL: www.gomongo.com Biggest Problems with Site on Mobile Device: If Chipotle isn't worried about Android users, Mongolian Grill isn't worried about iPhone users. The main video on the website is in (gulp) Flash! The locations are in Map format, and individual locations don't have addresses or click-to-call phone numbers. Recommendations: Get a Mobile Website
Honey Dew Donuts
General Information: Over 140 locations throughout New England. Originated in Massachusetts in 1975. Website URL: www.honeydewdonuts.com Biggest Problems with Site on Mobile Device: The "Locate a Shop" feature brings up a Google Map, but attempting to zoom in takes you half way across the country! There's no way to find directions to a shop, not even so much as a phone number. The menu also requires pinching and zooming to click a link to a product, and then more pinching and zooming to read the description. Recommendations: Get a Mobile Website
Juice It Up
General Information: Founded in 1995 as one of the first Smoothie and Juice Bars. Over 100 locations in malls, kiosks, and college campuses. Website URL: www.juiceitup.com Biggest Problems with Site on Mobile Device: I can see the social media links in the top right corner, but they are much too small to actually tap on. The "Juice it up Locator" is yet another map that is impossible to zoom in on. There is a "directions" link that opens the mapping function on a mobile device, but the phone number is not click-to-call. Nutritional information is in PDF format - once you are zoomed in enough to read it, you have to scroll left about 40 times in order to get through all of the information. Recommendations: Get a Mobile Website
Perkins Restaurants
General Information: Locations in all but 16 States, with locations in Canada as well Website URL: www.perkinsrestaurants.com Biggest Problems with Site on Mobile Device: On the desktop site you can view a video (TV Commercial from earlier in 2011) On the mobile site, you get a blank pop up that is very hard to close due to the miniscule X in the corner. Social Media & Contact Us links in upper right hand corner are very tiny as well. Can you guess how the location finder works? Yes. Another Map. Recommendations: Get a Mobile Website
Pita Pit
General Information: Originally a Canadian franchise, Pita Pit has become successful in the United States as well with over 180 locations Website URL: www.pitapitusa.com Biggest Problems with Site on Mobile Device: The home page is completely in Flash. No one on a mobile device made by Apple can see the main Video, Online Ordering information, Nutrition information, Franchise information, etc. etc. etc. The locations page (map, of course) does include a print button just in case you need it...? Recommendations: Get a Mobile Website
Jack in the Box
General Information: Over 2,200 locations in the United States Website URL: www.jackinthebox.com Biggest Problems with Site on Mobile Device: The entire site is in Flash. Trying to look for a location in Idaho takes you to Facebook because the icon floats in the same spot regardless of what page you are on. Recommendations: Get a Mobile Website
