Gen Y Picks Mobile over Desktop

There is no strict definition of the Generation Y crowd. They go by many names; Generation Next, Net Generation, Echo Boomers, etc. Generally, they are classified as having birth dates from the mid 1970s to early 2000s.

A new survey by browser maker Opera states that 51% of respondents between ages 18-27 (generally classified as Gen Y) in the US use Opera's mobile browser more than a computer to browse the Internet. Some highlights are:
  • 90% have shared photos on their phone
  • 70% have online friends they have never met in real life (this stat makes us cringe a bit)
  • 44% have asked someone on a date through text messaging (more cringing)
And what were the most used sites? No surprise that these were Google, FaceBook and YouTube.
