According to Google CEO Eric Schmidt, Android is activating more than 200,000 devices per day. That's double the volume from a couple of months back. At this rate, Android will activate more than 18 million devices per quarter.
It reminds us of the 1980/90s Mac versus PC wars. Back then, Apple, who chose not to license its OS was in stiff competition Microsoft, who licensed its OS to multiple brands. Apple was never able to gain more than 10% market share. Maybe Apple and RIM need to take a lesson from this. We predict that Android, with a plethora of brands will pass the iPhone by the end of 2010. Soon, the sleeping giant (Microsoft) will awaken from its slumber to seriously enter the mobile OS boxing-ring. It will be exciting to see the punches fly. By the end of 2011, we predict that Android will own a majority of market share, but the wildcard in all this is still Microsoft!
